Director of Health Informatics

Location: Egg Harbor Twp, NJ  |  Position Status: Full Time  |  Position Shift: Days
The Director of Health Informatics Training & Education oversees the Informatics and Training & Education teams, focusing on designing and enhancing systems to optimize clinical workflows and facilitate effective adoption.

A key responsibility is leveraging deep knowledge of clinical workflows to inform system design, improve end-user efficiency and achieve business objectives. The director ensures that applications and technology solutions are aligned with operational and administrative goals, driving both clinical and business outcomes.

Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO), this role collaborates closely with all teams within AtlantiCare Information Technology (AIT). The position supports organizational goals by delivering high-quality customer service, participating in performance improvement initiatives and fostering teamwork and cooperation.

This position requires on-call responsibilities and on-site responsibilities (ex: on-site presence during go-lives, rounding activities, select meetings/trainings and as determined by request/need).

QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION: Master's degree in nursing required. In lieu of master's degree, BSN and an additional four years of experience required.
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi-state license required. Nursing Informatics certification preferred. Valid driver's license.
  • EXPERIENCE: 8 years of experience as a healthcare clinician (in lieu of master's degree, BSN and a total of 12 years of experience required). Minimum of 3 years as a manager required. Proven expertise in information technology, clinical systems and clinical workflow required. Ability to mentor team. Experience in managing multiple projects.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Strategic Planning and Leadership
  • Leads the development of clinical project schedules that align with and advance enterprise strategic initiatives.
  • Provides leadership and vision in the clinical community, partnering with internal management and enterprise software vendors to drive the adoption and execution of clinical strategy.
  • Establishes goals and frameworks to enhance the clinical quality, safety and operational integrity of clinical information systems.
  • Directs the design and standardization of clinical content, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and industry best practices.
  • Evaluates and integrates emerging technologies to align the enterprise clinical architecture with advancements in the field.
  • Drives innovation and strategic facilitation, using creative problem-solving and forward-thinking approaches to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Leads the planning and execution of major programs and projects, applying sophisticated planning methodologies to ensure successful implementation and evaluation.
  • Develops and oversees comprehensive evaluation plans to assess the effectiveness and impact of programs and projects.

Clinical Systems and Workflow Management
  • Leads cross-functional teams to analyze and redesign clinical workflows, ensuring alignment with business objectives and optimal system performance.
  • Strategically evaluates and designs clinical systems to drive patient care transformation and improve clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborates with senior clinical, administrative and AIT leaders to translate complex clinician requirements into effective information system solutions.
  • Oversees and directs the management of systems related to quality outcome measures, ensuring they meet organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Develops and maintains an in-depth understanding of clinical information systems across the continuum, leveraging this knowledge to support strategic goals.
  • Leads the development and implementation of standards and guidelines for health informatics practice, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Partners with management to analyze and interpret quality data, implementing measures to enhance care quality and operational performance.

Data Management and Analytics
  • Directs the analysis of healthcare information and communication technology to mitigate risks, enhance care delivery and inform policy changes.
  • Monitors and evaluates application functionality and usage, leveraging established relationships with clinicians, staff and leaders to ensure compliance and optimize performance.
  • Provides high-level expertise in clinical information systems and data management, guiding business needs and supporting strategic decision-making.

Communication and Collaboration
  • Builds and maintains strategic relationships with employees, vendors and other stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes and operational alignment.
  • Leads cross-departmental communication and collaboration, coordinating efforts across the business units to achieve unified goals and enhance system effectiveness.
  • Champions and advocates for end-user informatics programs, ensuring they meet organizational needs and support effective technology adoption.
  • Drives the development and execution of strategies to support ongoing IT learning needs and serves as a change leader, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Compliance and Risk Management
  • Directs comprehensive compliance initiatives to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Ensures that professional standards and regulatory guidelines are integrated into documentation and practices within the EMR.
  • Leads and supports activities related to regulatory compliance, quality assurance and survey readiness, ensuring organizational preparedness and risk mitigation.

Problem Solving and Decision-Making
  • Demonstrates advanced problem-solving capabilities, understanding complex issues and developing actionable plans with clear timelines and milestones.
  • Utilizes analytical skills to define problems, gather data and draw actionable conclusions, guiding strategic decisions and operational improvements.

Vendor and Contract Management
  • Assists with the development and negotiation of contracts with vendors and AIT management teams, ensuring that business terms and scope of work align with organizational goals.

Training, Education and End-User Support
  • Develops and oversees strategic training programs for clinical systems, ensuring they are comprehensive, aligned with organizational objectives and effectively support end-user proficiency.
  • Leads the creation of advanced educational materials and resources that facilitate ongoing learning and optimize system utilization for clinical staff and other end users.
  • Assesses and strategically adapts training programs based on user feedback, evolving needs and technological advancements.
  • Directs hands-on support and troubleshooting efforts to address complex issues and enhance system adoption and performance.
  • Facilitates user adoption strategies, promoting best practices and demonstrating the value of clinical systems to drive engagement and efficiency.
  • Acts as a change leader and role model, supporting end-user adoption through advocacy and leadership in technology integration.
  • Monitors and evaluates training effectiveness, using metrics to drive continuous improvement in training programs and support initiatives.
  • Collaborates with senior clinical leaders to identify knowledge gaps and areas for improvement, ensuring training and support align with organizational needs.
  • Advocates for user-centered informatics programs, ensuring they address both organizational and individual learning requirements.
  • Ensures accessibility and effective communication of training and support resources to all relevant stakeholders.

General Duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment on an occasional basis, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances and potential injury. This position requires balancing, fingering, reaching, reading, driving and speaking a majority of the time. This position works with such equipment as computers, fax machine, copier and telephone. Occasional carrying up to 20 lbs. also required.
