Lead SPD Technician - Certified - Atlantic City Hospital

Location: Atlantic City, NJ  |  Position Status: Full Time  |  Position Shift: Evenings
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3 years of sterile processing experience.
  • Certification in Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
  • Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL) or CSPDM within 2 years of hire.
  • Flexible endoscope certification (CFER, CER) preferred.
  • Instrument tray tracking system experience.
  • Knowledge of the New Jersey State regulations and the AAMI national standards.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodology.

POSITION SUMMARY
The sterile processing lead technician is responsible for the day-to-day operational workflow patterns and staff management. All daily activities are coordinated by the SPD leads and must be able to perform all the duties and responsibilities of the sterile processing technicians. The lead is responsible for routine checks of the daily logs and tracks performance opportunities of all front-line staff. Opportunities for improvement are managed up and reported to the supervisor. The lead acts as the charge person in the absence of the supervisor and performs operational duties as appropriate. This position supports upper leadership by actively engaging in training and executing goals, vision and mission in a positive and empowering way. The lead will communicate leadership information to the technicians in huddles and will support all leadership initiatives for process improvement, staff retention and good morale. The lead provides quality customer service and shows a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. The position is a flexible position that often requires various shift coverage and essential staff when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certified Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST) or CBSPD certification as mandated by NJ DOH. Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) within 2 years of hire and Certified Endoscope Processor Certification (CFER or CER) preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE: Computer skills, Microsoft applications and instrument tray tracking system required.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the ability to perform the department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances and potential injury. This position requires extensive walking and standing and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

This position reports to the manager of Sterile Processing.
