Operating Systems Engineer II - Egg Harbor Township

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with minimum 5 years of experience required, or high school diploma required with minimum 10 years of experience required.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Operating Systems Engineer II role is to ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The systems engineer will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in a related field with minimum 5 years of experience required, or high school diploma with minimum 10 years of experience required.
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: MCSA certification or higher preferred.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
  • Responsible for system support 24 hours a day/7 days a week/365 days a year.*
  • Collaborates with engineering staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.*
  • Works with executive team members, decision makers and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals and to identify and resolve business systems issues.*
  • Designs and deploys new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software and operating systems.*
  • Performs cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.*
  • Conducts research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.*
  • Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to secure system-related products and services.*
  • Gauges the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develops and implements strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.*
  • Proposes and creates system design models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction to system programmer and development teams.*
  • Designs and performs server and security audits, system back-up procedures and other recovery processes in accordance with the company's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.*
  • Integrates servers, including database, e-mail, print and back-up servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.*
  • Ensures system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware and other applications.*
  • Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes and service records.*
  • Ensures compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.*
  • Coordinates and performs in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.*
  • Monitors and tests system performance; prepares and delivers system performance statistics and reports.*
  • Provides orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.*
  • Develops and maintains back-up routines, ensuring reliable back-ups and restores.*
  • Monitors system security and access, ensuring system integrity.*
  • Monitors and maintains system storage.*
  • Performs system performance evaluations and makes recommendations for improvements.*
  • Prepares system availability reports.*
  • Installs operating system and vendor-specific software updates according to established standards.*
  • Ensures all production environments are configured for high availability to maximize uptime.*
  • Investigates and maintains any third party system tools for monitoring, back-up, security, etc.*

  • Works closely with the Data Security Analyst and Chief Privacy Officer to ensure proper creation and maintenance of user accounts.*
  • Provides technical support, guidance, assistance and training as required.*
  • Participates in the development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan.*
  • Works with the Database Administrator to ensure database integrity.*
  • Develops programs and tools to automate scheduling of system-related operations and reports.*
  • Uses communication and teamwork skills to maintain successful working relationships throughout the organization. WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires repetitive motion, fingering, hearing, pushing, reaching, reading, seeing, speaking, standing and walking a majority of the time. Spends time with such equipment as a computer terminal, fax machine, copier and telephone. Occasional driving also required.
