Peer Support Manager

Location: Atlantic City, NJ  |  Position Status: Full Time  |  Position Shift: Days
Reports To: Unit Director

Training: Annual education, BLS and CPI required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

Position Summary:
The program manager is responsible for the operation of distinct programs within established units. The program manager assumes responsibility for coordinating and integrating services within the program and for realizing the goals of the program. This position is both a clinical and administrative position. The manager will supervise a team of peer support specialists to assist consumers/members who have a mental health diagnosis and/or substance use disorder fully integrate into their communities. The manager will assist peer support specialists in promoting well-being, independent living and self-direction and decreasing the need for hospitalizations. The peer support supervisor will provide support to peer support specialists to utilize social and emotional support and education to accomplish wellness.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Makes recommendations to the unit's director regarding resources and programming in order to realize the program's goals.
  • Supervises all program staff administratively, performs performance evaluations and makes recommendations to the unit director regarding training.
  • Provides individualized, ongoing guidance, coaching and support.
  • Provides support to peer support specialists to utilize social and emotional support and education to accomplish wellness.
  • Ensures that contracted/budgeted levels of service are achieved.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to any age/disability group assigned.
  • Provides on-call support to staff as needed.
  • Posseses marketing and promotional ability to increase patient volume and visibility in coordinating services with other local and statewide agencies.
  • Sets, directs and achieves performance goals.
  • Ensures staff work within the core competencies of peer support workers.
  • Endorses and enacts recovery-oriented practices and values.
  • Supports integration of peer workers and recovery values.
  • Identifies as a person in recovery and intentionally shares recovery story. Uses this as appropriate means to assist individuals and to provide hope and help in changing patterns and behaviors.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records and notes, as well as confidentiality, and compiling timely reports.
  • Schedules and facilitates monthly staff meetings
  • Maintains records and provides assistance with appropriate documentation in files and computer database.
  • Ensures all peer notes are entered into a datable in an accurate and timely manner, including phone notes.
  • Communicates with behavioral health staff to build a rapport and coordinate care.
  • Reinforces guides and ensures patients and their families that recovery is possible and is built upon multiple strengths, coping abilities and resources of each individual.
  • Advocates for appropriate and effective community treatment and recovery.
  • Empowers individuals to make self-determined and self-directed choices about their recovery pathways.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimal Qualifications: Bachelor's degree AND two years of mental health direct care experience, which may include experience in peer support services; or a high school diploma or GED AND four years of mental health direct care experience, which may include experience in peer support services. Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification. Identify as a person in recovery with at least two years of successful recovery. Working knowledge of different pathways to recovery and social systems, including evidence-based practices. Valid New Jersey driver's license required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Dual credential to include CPRS and Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP).
